Yvonne "Bonnie" E. Kirby, 94, of Freeport, passed away, Thursday September 2, 2021, at FHN Memorial Hospital. Bonnie was born May 3, 1927, in Steuben, Wisconsin, the daughter of Henry C. and Emma (Faust) Stuckey. In 1942 she became pen pals with a young sailor named Cecil M. Kirby. They wrote back and forth for over three and a half years while he was stationed over seas, and shortly after his discharge from the military they went on marry on June 1, 1946. Mr. Kirby passed away, August 2, 2012. Mrs. Kirby was a member of Baileyville Baptist Church. She worked for JCPenney for 24 years. Surviving is her son, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Kirby of Elkhart, Indianapolis; daughter-in-law, Linda Kirby of Troutdale, Oregon; five grandchildren, Dustin (Stephanie) Kirby, Joshua (Juli) Kirby, Whitney Berger, Sarah (Rodney) Blankenship, and Lee (Rex) Bennett; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn "Jean" Cummins, Madeline (Tom) Hanley, and Bernice Hamilton. Mrs. Kirby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Belinda Sue; son, Gregory Kirby; grandson, Derek Lee Kirby; sister, Agnes Sanders; and brother, Jim Stuckey. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Baileyville Baptist Church. Pastor Gary Branam will officiate. Visitation 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will be in Cranes Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Baileyville Baptist Church in Mrs. Kirby's memory.
