Wilma E. Stephan

Wilma E. Stephan, 94, of Freeport, died Wednesday, August 5, 2015 in her home. Wilma was born on November 16, 1920 in Wisconsin, the daughter of Lester and Nellie (Martin) Bicknell. Wilma married Paul P.F. Stephan on May 11, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa. Mr. Stephan passed away on September 1, 2004. Wilma was a member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church. She enjoyed sewing, Bingo, doing puzzles, and going out to dinner with her friends and family. Wilma was proud of the fact she made all of her daughters wedding dresses. Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Susan) Stephan of Freeport and Mark (Elizabeth 'Liz") Stephan of Hoffman Estates; four daughters, Karen (Jerry) Heinrich of Pearl City, Garnet (Leon) Obenchain of Freeport, Paulette (Leon) Volkers of Pearl City and Lynne (Daniel) Hofmaster of Freeport; 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren. Wilma is also survived by her beloved dog, Bailey. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Rose; her grandson, Cory Hofmaster; and two sons-in-law, Leo Gerke and Elisha "Keyes" McCurdy. Funeral services will be11:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 at Park Hills Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Tyler Volkers and Rev. Mark Balmer will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at Park Hills. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Wilma's memory.
