William T. 'Smokey" Stauffer, 84, of Freeport, died Sunday February 21, 2021 at OSF Saint Anthony's Medical Center in Rockford, IL. He was born March 26, 1936 in Freeport, IL, the son of Leo and Rose (Secker) Stauffer. William married Sharon Wilson November 15, 1958 in Freeport, IL; Sharon died December 10, 2017. William worked for Civil for 35 years, retiring in 2020. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Eagles Club 679, and the Rockford Pigeon Club. William is survived by his daughter Joann (Aimee) Stauffer of St. Louis, Mo; brother, Charles Stauffer of Acton, CA; three grandchildren, Christine (Adam) Wiederholtz Kaleigh Reitnzer and Zachary Reitnzer; two great-grandchildren, Phonix Wiederholtz and Dillon Wiederholtz; and his special friend, Jan Okey. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Rose Stauffer; his wife, Sharon; and his son, William T. "Billy" Stauffer, Jr. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday February 26, 2021 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Freeport with Father Ken Anderson officiating. Face masks will be required. There will be no visitation.
