William K. Dickman, Sr., 89 of Freeport died Friday in his home surrounded by his family. He was born September 2, 1922 in Freeport, the son of William C. and Harriet 'Ruth' ( Cramer) Dickman. He married Esther Heilman on July 7, 1945 in Freeport. Mr. Dickman was a WW II Army veteran and was the first WW II veteran to join the Freeport American Legion. Mr. Dickman was employed in Agri-business his entire life. Along with his family , he owned and operated a Hatchery- Poultry farm, was engaged in a truck farming and a egg distribution business, which later became Dickman Farm Service, Inc. Mr. Dickman served on the Stephenson County Board and was the Lancaster Township Supervisor for Twenty Five years. Mr. Dickman was a member of Saint John United Church of Christ. He enjoyed sports, fishing, bowling, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. More than anything he enjoyed being with his family especially his grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife, are Three sons; Bill (Mary) Dickman, Jr. of Cedarville , Larry (Karen) Dickman of Freeport and Lowell (Jeanne) Dickman of Freeport. Three daughters; Kathy (Ron) Carrell of Fishers, IN, Paula (Larry) Nieman of Ridott, and Laurie (Kurt) Keith of Freeport Sixteen grandchildren and Eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, 10:30 A.M. in Saint John United Church of Christ. Visitation will be Monday, 4:00-8-00 P.M. at the church and from 9:30 A.M. until time of service Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Freeport. Memorial have been established for St. Jude Children'™s Hospital and Unity Hospice.
