William Wilbur Pommerening, 72, of Freeport died Sunday, September 1, 2024 at SSM Hospice Home in Monroe.
He was born April 30, 1952 to Wilbur J. and Audrey (Perdue) Pommerening in Freeport. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1970. He served in the United States Army and Illinois National Guard from 1972-1975, where he was based in California and served as a radar operator at a nuclear missile site.
He worked for Goodyear Tires at Kelly Springfield in Freeport for 39 years. He worked in department 410 splicing and retired there in 2015.
He married Marla Bunker on August 14, 1976 in Freeport, where they went on to live and raise their four children. Bill had a love for John Deere tractors, the Green Bay Packers, rides in the country and being Pop Pop to his three grandchildren.
Surviving him are his wife of 48 years, Marla Pommerening of Freeport, his four children: Jaime Pommerening of Verona, WI; Heidi (Chris Carlson) Pommerening of Roscoe; William C. Pommerening of Belleville, WI; and Ashley Pommerening of Belleville, WI. His three precious grandchildren: Roman and Willa Pommerening of Belleville, WI and Adaila Pommerening of Roscoe.
Also surviving him are his siblings: James Cox of Buckley, WA; Sally (Delbert) Bunker of Freeport; and Dave (Melanie) Pommerening of Polo. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Edwin Cox, Donna Malloy, Lorraine Tempel, Peg Pommerening, Sue Pommerening, and Merrell Pommerening.
The family would like to thank everyone at SSM Hospice Home for all their care and support.
Private services and burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Freeport.
