William (Bill) Pershall Dorman, 86 of Freeport, IL, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, at WinnPrairie Assisted Living in Freeport, IL with his family by his side. Born to William M. and Roberta (Pershall) Dorman on September 6, 1938, Bill was raised in Freeport and graduated from Freeport High School and Michigan State University as a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design. He was drafted into the US Army and served from 1961 to 1963 as a Classified Documents Courier, stationed in Ft. Belvore, Virginia. Upon completion of his service, Bill lived in Oregon, Wisconsin and worked in sales. In 1969, he returned to Freeport to work with his father in his Northern Illinois Outdoor Advertising business. Upon his father’s retirement, Bill purchased the business and become the sole owner and operator for several years. His next business endeavor would be as a real estate agent for Seidenburg Realtors and then Preferred Real Estate of Illinois until his retirement in 2009. On May 27, 1995, Bill married Beth Ann Krogull and together they had one son, Andrew. He loved his family dearly and was overjoyed with the addition of his daughter-in-law, Carly, in 2023 and his grandson, Brody in 2024.
Bill also had a love of sports, which included his Alma Matre Michigan State Spartans and the Chicago Bears. His lifelong love of golf started as a child at the Freeport Country Club and then later in life, Park Hills Golf Club. He made great friendships and many good memories throughout his lifetime. Bill’s talent allowed him to become a member of the Michigan State golf team, and participate in a US Amateur Golf Tournament. Locally, he was the Freeport City Tournament Champion six times, the Stephenson Cup Champion five times and had eight holes-in-one. He equally loved fishing and the countless trips to Canada, Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin, with so many close friends. However, the biggest joy of his life was his son, Andrew. He taught him to golf and fish when he was very young and instilled a lifelong love of both sports and of the outdoors, which Bill was able to enjoy with him into adulthood.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dick Dorman and father-in-law, R. James Krogull. He is survived by his wife, Beth, son Andrew (Carly) Dorman and grandson, Brody James Dorman of Freeport, IL, sister Debra Dorman of DuPont, Colorado, mother-in-law, Virginia M. Krogull of Freeport, IL, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jeff (Ann) Krogull, of Freeport, IL, Doug (Debi) Krogull of Lena, IL, Kurt (Stacie) Krogull of Overland Park, Kansas, Brad (Cheryl) Krogull of Burlington, Iowa and wonderful nieces and nephews.
Bill will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. Thank you to the wonderful staff at WinnPrairie and FHN Hospice for their kind and compassionate care for Bill. A private family service will be held at a later date.
