William "Bill" H. Witt

William 'Bill' H. Witt, 87, of Freeport, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Stephenson Nursing Center. Bill was born on January 10, 1925 in Freeport the son of Roy J. and Marion (Scott) Witt. Bill served in World War II with the U.S. Navy. On April 7, 1945 Bill married Avril A. Martin in Exeter, England. Bill enjoyed traveling especially to England. He was a past president of the Eagles Club. Bill liked camping and going to the casino. He was a true handyman. He was a great father, husband, grandpa and great grandpa. Bill was extremely proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He worked for Crum and Forster for 39 years where he was building manager before retiring in 1987. Survivors include wife; Avril A. Witt of Freeport, sister; Margery Klipping of Lena, Ill, four grandchildren; Anthony (Susan) Midthun of Waterford, Wisconsin, Lorrie (Shane) Heeren of Shannon, IL, Heidi Miller of Freeport and Dani (Joe) Glasgow of Freeport, 13 great grandchildren; Kyle, Taylor, and Drake Heeren, Derrick, Ben, Meagan, and McKayla Brinkmeier, Peyton, Jakob , and Noah Midthun, Raelyn, Jace, and Cadeyn Glasgow, one great great-grandchild Dustin Brinkmeier. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, daughter; Ruth Midthun, son-in-law; Bob Midthun, brother; Roy and sister; Dorothy Brock. Memorial Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday February 10, 2012 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday February 9, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. also at Burke Tubbs followed by an Eagle service at 7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in his memory.
