William "Bill" E. Spangler

William E. "Bill". Spangler, 58, of Freeport, died Saturday June 18, 2016 in his home following an extended illness. Bill was born August 25, 1957 in Freeport, the son of James D. and Gertrude (Niederberger) Spangler. He was a 1975 graduate of Freeport High School, Bill then graduated from Eastern Illinois University, where he was a member of the Eastern Illinois Swim Team and received All American Honors. Bill married Karen Untersee. He was a 34 year employee of the Freeport Health Network and worked as Assistant Vice President of Finance. He was a lifelong N.R.A. member. Bill enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, working in the woods, and following the Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals. Surviving are his wife, Karen Spangler of Freeport; father, James Spangler of Freeport; sons, Seth Spangler of Florida, Evan Spangler of Freeport, and Kyle (Star) Untersee of Fishers, IN.; daughters, Shelly (Steve) Tinsley of Chino Valley, AZ., Brooke (Aaron) Kroll of Indianapolis, IN.; brother, James (Linda) Spangler of Florida; sisters, Mary (David) Marsh of MN., and Julie (Tom) Fellers of Lena; eight grandchildren, Lexy, Cash, Violet, and Easton Untersee, Heath and Jolene Tinsley, and Griffin and Kamryn Kroll. Also surviving are special companions Jessie and Drake. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude. Memorial services will be 3:00 P.M. Monday June 27, 2016 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Following the memorial service a Celebration of Life will take place in the Freeport Eagles Club. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.
