Wilbur H. Klapp, 86, of Freeport, died Tuesday December 29, 2015 in his home. He was born August 11, 1929 in German Valley, IL, the son of Thomas and Jennie (Borgmann) Klapp. He married Marjorie Klenz February 20, 1949; she died February 19, 2013. Wilbur worked as a welder, and more recently he and his son co-owned Dakota Garage retiring from there in 1997. After retirement he ran his own lawn care business. He enjoyed listening to his son Ron sing and play guitar, helping his neighbors, attending garage sales, and old tractors and cars. Wilbur is survived by his two sons Robert (Nancy) Klapp of Dakota, IL and Ronald (Marcene) Klapp of Freeport, IL; two daughters Bonnie Staley of Rockford, IL and Brenda (Craig) Ames of Freeport, IL; his brother Alvin (Diana) Klapp of Stilman Valley, IL; his sister Linda (James) Combs of Broadhead, WI; four grandchildren Jeffrey (Sarah) Staley, Wendy (Brad) Williams, Cali (Charlie) Zumdahl, and Erin (Trevis) Glass; four great-grandchildren Ethan and Aiden Williams, and Kyle and Kaden Glass; also surviving are several nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his daughter Carolyn Kay Klapp. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 2, 2016 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport with Rev. Bill Blomberg officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service.
