Wayne R. Walker

Wayne R. Walker, 78, of Freeport, IL passed away peacefully Thursday October 26, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 10, 1945 in Chicago, IL to Donald H. and Marjorie (Marienthal) Walker. On October 23, 1964 he married Kay Marie Pohl in Lena, IL. Wayne was employed at Honeywell Micro Switch for 40 years, retiring in June of 2005. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Freeport. His memberships also included the Freeport Elks, Eagles and Germania. Wayne enjoyed golfing, traveling, reading and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and White Sox. Most of all, Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Kay of Freeport, IL; daughters Pamela (Daniel) Green of Rockford, IL and Brenda (Thomas Hemaidan) Phillips of Verona, WI; grandchildren Emily (David) Daub, Nathan Green, both of Rockford, IL, Jennifer (David Duszynski) and Madison Phillips, both of Madison, WI; great-grandchildren Tyler, Theodore and Tucker Daub, all of Rockford, IL; sisters Barbara Atz of Dakota, IL and Susan Dicks of Winnebago, IL.

Preceding Wayne in death are his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday November 4, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, 503 N Lily Creek Road, Freeport, IL 61032. Pastor Natarsha Gardner will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Friday November 3, 2023 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society or FHN Hospice. The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Northwestern Medical in Geneva, IL and FHN Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Wayne.
