Wayne L. Gaul

Wayne L. Gaul, 85, of Shannon, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at FHN Memorial Hospital. Wayne was born March 26, 1938 in Freeport to father Kenneth Gaul and mother Mary (Atherton) Gaul. Wayne farmed for more than 60 years in the Shannon area as he wanted to, until his last days with us. He was a very active and proud member of the Shannon Lions Club. If you have attended the Shannon Homecoming Celebration on Labor Day Weekend, odds are you have enjoyed Wayne’s Pork Chops. He looked forward to starting every day with a cup of coffee at the Shannon Café, where he would catch up and tell stories with other farmers, possibly starting a good natured argument with one of them.

Wayne and Karen Kneiss were married for over 30 years and together they had two children, Rick and Randy. He married Georgette Stevens later in life and they enjoyed many years together.

If Wayne didn’t pick on you a little, he didn’t like you very much. If he picked on you and you gave it right back, he liked you a lot! His family is grateful that Wayne had many near and dear to him to pick on throughout his life.

Wayne is survived by his sons Rick (Stephanie) Gaul of Montgomery, Texas and Randy (Jane) Gaul, also of Texas; aunt (like a mother) Wilma Weber; many wonderful cousins from his mom’s side, including Ellis Atherton of Shannon and Robyn Setterstrom of Forreston; several grandchildren, including Andrea Davis, Aaron Gaul, Amanda Leal, Lauren Gaul, and Cassandre Mlakar; step-brother Kevin and step-sister Bev.

Wayne was preceded in death by his uncle, (like a father) Richard Weber; cousins, Dennis and Jerry Weber; step-brother Tom.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. A memorial has been established in Wayne’s memory. Please sign his guestbook and share a remembrance at www.burketubbs.com
