Walter West, 65, of Freeport, Illinois departed his earthly life Thursday October 27, 2011, at Freeport Health Network surrounded by his family. He was born October 26, 1946 in Durant, MS. He was the son of Doyle and Ida Lee (West) Prince. Walter attended school in Durant, MS and Freeport High school. He worked various jobs in Beloit, Monroe, and Janesville, WI; he also worked at Structo Manufacturing in Freeport until illness prevented him from working. Walter enjoyed singing, watching sports especially football always cheering for the Chicago Bears, watching SOAPS, the World news, and political talk shows. Walter leaves to cherish his memories: his father Doyle Prince of Waterloo, IA; four brothers Junior (Juanita) West of Rockford, Il, Jake (Melissa) West of Freeport, IL, Willie Lee Holmes of waterloo, IA, and Bennie Kind of Durant, MS; seven sisters Izola West-McGee of Waterloo, IA, Ida Mae West, Lula Mae Prince, Ella (Leroy) Ishmon, Joyce (Curtis) Robinson all of Freeport, Il, Virginia Weatherspoon of waterloo, IA, and Lucille (James) Davis of Washington, DC; his aunt Pearlie Young (107 years old) of Rounds Lake, IL his uncle J.W. Otis of waterloo, IA; and also host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. A Special mention to his sister Ella Ishmon who took care of Walter for the past 10 years. Walter was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, a special aunt Roberta Prince, and several other aunts and uncles. Funeral services for Mr. West will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday November 4, 2011 at St. James C.M.E. Church with Rev. Roy Howard officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
