Walter L. Holcomb

Walter L. Holcomb, 83, of Freeport, IL passed away Thursday February 23, 2023 at FHN Hospital. He was born August 30, 1939 in Freeport, IL to Walter and Daisy (Lamm) Holcomb. On August 27, 1960 he married Sandra Symanek. Walter served in the United States Army. He also served 26 years on the Freeport Police Department, including 11 years as Chief of Police. After retirement he sold cars for Ihm Motors, was a telemarketing manager, and worked for Stewart Security, securing Honeywell buildings. He enjoyed history, politics, hunting, fishing, driving, (sightseeing) and vacationing in the Wisconsin Dells with family in his earlier years. He was a long time member of Berean Baptist church. He is survived by his wife Sandra of Freeport; three daughters Carrie (Quentin) Fletcher of Freeport, IL, Sherrie (Kurt) Kahl of Freeport IL Barbara Holcomb of Beloit, WI, seven grandchildren Scott Schaefer, Brent Schaefer, Rachel Pehl, Ryan (Kara) Wagand, Jesse Toepfer, Jacqueline Jones, and Jonna Jones; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Edward and Billy; two sisters Delores Crase and Rosemary Pascal, and granddaughter Cammie Schaefer. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday March 2, 2023 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with Rev. Kurt Strong officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in his memory.
