Wallace '˜Jim' Haas, 90, of Freeport, died Saturday May 26, 2012 at Provena St. Joseph Home in Freeport. He was born on April 29, 1922 in Jo Davies County, the son of Joseph and Martha (Dolan) Haas. Jim worked at Tool and Die and Micro Switch for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He married Shirley Phillips on March 20, 1942 in Pearl City. She died on April 26, 2006. He was WWII Army Veteran. He served in the B CO. 2nd division. He was in the Battle of Bulge. Jim was awarded the Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. Jim was an avid New York Yankee and Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards at Pecks News Stand. Survivors include one son, James (Bonnie) Haas of Freeport; one daughter Pamela (Gary) Huenefeld of Rock City; three grandsons, Michael, Steven and Matthew Huenefeld. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, six sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be Wednesday 10:30 a.m. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home Freeport. Rev Lee Luebke will officiate. Visitation will be 9:30a.m. until time of service at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
