Vivian "Vicky" Shaw

Vivian "Vicky" Shaw, 92, departed this earthly life December 26, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. Born Vivian Sims on August 23, 1926 in Little Rock, AR to Rev. Louis Sims Sr. and Mamie (Walter) Sims. Vivian accepted Christ at an early age in Little Rock, AR. In 1992 she joined Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Tommy Robinson, preceded by Rev. Charles Threadgill, Jr. where she remained until leaving Freeport in 2007. Her current membership is with New Grace Life Cathedral in Chicago, IL under the leadership of her cousin Bishop Dwayne A. Funches Sr. Vivian attended school in Little Rock, AR. She graduated from Dunbar Junior and Senior High School. Following High School, she moved to St. Louis, MO, where she and her grade school friend "Ike H. Shaw, Jr." were reunited and began dating. After a few years of dating, in June of 1956 they were united in Holy Matrimony. Vivian and Ike went on to move to Chicago, IL and later to Freeport, IL. To this union two daughters were born, Vernita and Lenita. Vivian was employed by Chateau Royale in Chicago, IL, catering and hosting banquets for 14 years until moving to Freeport, IL in 1972 where she became employed by Micro Switch a division of Honeywell. She accepted the early retirement being offered by Micro Switch in December of 1986 following the demise of her husband. Vivian leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Vernita (James) Allen of Chicago, Il; step-son, Tyrone Shaw of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren, Marciea Allen, Monica Allen, and Monique Allen all of Chicago, IL; four great-grandchildren, Harmony, Serenity, Melody, and Maejor all of Chicago, IL; niece Helen (Earl) Thomas of Freeport, IL; brother-in-law Norman Shaw of Little Rock, AR; special cousins, Emily (Bishop Dwayne Sr.) Funches, Yvonne (Robert Sr.) Carter and her best friend of over 60 years Mrs. Mattie Jackson of Chicago, IL; her adoptive children Andrian Allen, Lezzette Green, and Anthony Pugh; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ike Shaw; daughter, Lenita Shaw; step-daughter, Evelyn Shaw; grandson, Jalill Allen; four sisters, Mary Dedmond, Rosie Davis, Hellen Mitchell, and Cora Redmond; Eight Brothers, Otis, Billy, Main, O.D., Louis, Elvin, Willie, and Henry Sims; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Saturday January 5, 2019 at New Philippians Baptist Church in Freeport. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Freeport City Cemetery.
