Virgil Hayunga

Virgil H. Hayunga, 79, of Freeport, IL passed away Wednesday July 5, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. He was born January 17, 1944 in German Valley, IL to Henry and Ethel (Mennega) Hayunga. He married Beverly Bornemeier on June 10, 1964 in Forreston, IL. Virgil was employed at the Illinois Department of Transportation for 33 years. He enjoyed playing softball, fishing, cutting wood, and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.

He is survived by his wife Beverly of Freeport, IL; three sons Terry (Tina) Hayunga of Winona, MN, Tom (Joey) Hayunga of Baileyville, IL, and Tim (Gina) Hayunga of Roscoe, IL; two brothers LeRoy Hayunga of Freeport, IL and Philip (Susie) Hayunga of Surprise, AZ; sister Phyllis Dirkson of Tucson, AZ; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding Virgil in death are his parents and granddaughter Bridgett Johnson.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday July 10, 2023 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. A visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Virgil’s memory.
