Vianna M. Coomber

Vianna M. Coomber, Freeport, passed away on July 18, 2012, after an extended illness. She was a resident of Parkview Home. Vianna Margaret Schoonhoven was born on September 19, 1918 in Stephenson County, the daughter of Henry and Grace (Stahl) Schoonhoven. She attended country schools and graduated from Freeport High School in 1934. On September 2 1939, she married Elwood L. Coomber of rural Freeport. He passed away in 1994. After graduation Vi worked for Crum and Forster Insurance and later as a receptionist and clerk in the Stephenson County Treasurer'™s Office. She was a member of First Baptist Church, and especially active in missions, Christian education, and hospitality. Vi is survived by a son, James (Eleanor), Moorhead, Minnesota; a daughter, Nancy Smith, Wadsworth, Illinois; four grandchildren: Sarah E. (Jon Suomala) Coomber, Woodland, Washington; Erik R. (Christi) Smith, Carmel, Indiana; Melissa (Joseph) Smith, Kenosha, Wisconsin; and the Rev. Matthew (Sarah A.) Coomber, Davenport, Iowa; and seven greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Karl Schoonhoven, sister-in-law Peggy Schoonhoven, and brother-in-law Malcolm Coomber, all of Freeport, and sister-in-law Beatrice (Kenneth) Henk, Grand Junction, Colorado, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Four brothers and her son-in-law, Richard J. Smith, predeceased her. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 26, at 2 PM at Parkview Home, 1234 S. Park Blvd. , with the Rev. Gardner C. Cronk officiating. Visitation will begin an hour before the service. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
