Verna M. Kintzel

Verna M. Kintzel, 89, of Freeport died April 16, 2019 at Pearl Pavilion. She was born February 4, 1930 in Eleroy, IL the daughter of James and Linda (Schultz) Murray. On May 22, 1948 she married Robert Kintzel at Fort Sherman in Panama. Verna was the owner and operator of Verna's Yarn Shop which in its time was one of the longest-running businesses in town. She was a member of Cedarville United Methodist Church and Gallery 13. Verna enjoyed knitting and in the 1970s taught courses at Highland Community College and the YWCA on knitting and crocheting. Verna is survived by her son Jeffrey (Cheri) Kintzel of Freeport; two daughters Carol (Brad) Otto of Cedarville and Sharon (Paul) Welt of Cedarville; grandchildren Nichole (Jeremy) Bell of Grand Rapids, MI, Whitnie (Brad) Snodgrass of Grand Rapids, MI, Kiefer (Tyler Choate) Otto of Chicago, Lori Kintzel of Freeport, Heather (Chris) Reinders of Freeport, Jeremy (Sarah) Welt of Freeport, Theresa (Nick Dean) Welt of Ferndale, MI, Josh (Melissa Holliday) Welt of Kissimmee, FL and Tiffany Welt of Milwaukee, WI; and seven grandchildren Zoe Bell, Jaxon Bell, Gryffen Bell, Laila Reinders, Maicy Reinders, Zeke Snodgrass and Otto Snodgrass. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and three sisters. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday April 20, 2019 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. A visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the National Stroke Association.
