Verla June Briggs

Verla June Briggs, 89, of Freeport, died Saturday March 11, 2017 at Manor Court. Verla was born August 3, 1927 in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Jessie (Hatten) Miller. She married Burdette "Burt" Briggs on May 10, 1947. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where she was in the church choir and also taught Sunday School for many years. Verla was active at the Winneshiek Playhouse for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge in her card club. Verla sang at many weddings Surviving are her husband, Burdette "Burt" Briggs; two sons, Steven (Mary) Briggs of German Valley and David (Suzie) Briggs of Libertyville; daughter, Sandy (Jim) Wolfe of Freeport. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday April 17, 2017 at Faith United Methodist Church in Freeport. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. Burial of cremains will be held in Oakland Mausoleum.
