Verdine "Mama T" (Wesley) Allen, was born to the union of John D. Wesley, Sr. and Lucy Allen on December 8, 1943, in Webb, Mississippi. Verdine Allen was the eldest of ten children. Verdine departed this earthly life on January 15, 2023, at her home surrounding by her loved ones. Verdine was educated in the West District School system of Webb, MS. In 1961, Verdine moved to Chicago, IL, where she was employed by the Bird factory. In 1977, Verdine moved to Freeport, IL and in 1978, Verdine was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company/Kelly Springfield Tire & Rubber Company, where she worked until she retired in 2003. Verdine found the Lord at an early age, while living in Chicago she attended several churches. When she moved to Freeport, IL, she continued her Christian walk with God when she joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. While at Friendship Church she worked tirelessly in whatever capacity she was needed. Her passion was the Choir where she was a choir member, she also held the position of Choir Director and President. Verdine was also over the Children's Choir. Most of the kids she brought to church usually ended up singing in the choir. She was a faithful and devoted member of Friendship Church, until recently when her health began to fail her and she was not physically able to attend church. She gave her ALL to God until the end of her life, in 2 Corinthians 4:18, "Only what you do for Christ will last", this was her life testimony. She was not just a worker for her family and church family but she served the entire city of Freeport. Verdine was a beacon of light for Freeport and her community. She never failed to help anyone that was in need of her help. No matter whether it was food, clothes, or shelter, she always gave a hand. Especially, when it came to food, she would gather and buy food just to give to others. She did other things to help benefit the quality of other people's lives. Verdine loved helping with other people's children, clothing, and feeding them. She also took time just to talk with them. She was truly an asset to the Freeport community. Verdine leaves to cherish her memories: two sons; Ronald L. (Crystal) Allen, of Austell, GA, and Myron A. Turks, Sr., of Freeport, IL.
