Velda R. Wichman

Velda R. Wichman, 97, of Freeport, passed away Monday December 31, 2018 in the Stephenson Nursing Center. Velda was born September 28, 1921 in Carroll County, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Ethel (Kantlehner) Busch. She married Henry L. Wichman on October 17, 1943 in Pearl City, Illinois. Mr. Wichman died July 12, 1983. Velda worked at Union Dairy and for the Reints family for many years. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Velda enjoyed baking in her free time, attending family gatherings and being at all of her grandchildren's sporting events. Surviving are her five sons, Larry Wichman of Freeport, Glenn (Jill) Wichman of Forreston, Wayne (Jan) Wichman of Freeport, Lynn (Cheri) Wichman of Freeport, and Randy (Cris) Wichman of Freeport; two sisters, Betty Remmers of Freeport and Iona (Don) Keister of Ocala, Florida; also surviving are nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Velda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday January 4, 2019 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Fairman officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
