Vanette L. Rackow

Vanette L. Rackow, 93, of Freeport, IL passed away Saturday June 22, 2024 at Winn Prairie in Freeport. She was born August 29, 1930 in Rock Grove, IL to Clark and Hulda (Nott) Myers. Vanette married Melvin Rackow on September 25, 1949. Melvin preceded her in death on December 5, 2018 at the age of 87. Vanette farmed alongside her husband in the Orangeville area for 60 years. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church since marriage. Vanette made many angel food cakes from scratch over the years. Cherry-raspberry and transparent apple pies were also a favorite of family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Terry) Moss of Freeport; grandchildren, Andrea (Jason) Elgin of Monroe, Wisconsin, and their children, Kaitlyn, Jadyn, Alexis and Eli; Kelly (Jamie) Campbell of Pearl City, and their children, Skylar (Tyler) Barthel, Kylie, Morgan, and Carson; and Michael (Lori) Moss of Waterloo, Iowa, and their children, Braedyn, Jaxson, Asher, and twins, Adley, and Ethan.

Preceding Vanette in death are her parents, husband, sister Neva Schubert, and brother Lowell (Rosie) Myers.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday July 3, 2024 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Freeport with Rev. Dr. Willis Schwichtenberg officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at church. There will also be a visitation from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Tuesday July 2, 2024 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Vanette’s memory.
