Tony Sciutto

Tony Sciutto, 94, of Freeport, died Wednesday December 20, 2017 at Presence Nursing Center in Freeport. He was born September 25, 1923 in Wenona, IL, the son of Rosario and Frances (Bravata) Sciutto. He married Lorene Lenz December 24, 1942 in Freeport, IL. Tony attended Orangeville High School. He served in the US Army from February 1943-September 1945. He served in the European Theatre in Italy, France, Germany and Anzio where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. He worked for Illinois Central Railroad for 25 years, and then for Micro-Switch for 20 years. His memberships included V.F.W., American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Elks Lodge, Eagles Club, and a former member of the Germania Club. He loved to golf, bowl, trap, hunt, fish, gardening, and pitch horse shoes He and Lorene enjoyed traveling and have made in to all 50 states, and also Germany France, and Switzerland. Tony is survived by his wife Lorene Sciutto of Freeport, IL; his son, Michael (Sue) Sciutto of Galena, IL; daughter-in-law, Sandy Sciutto; three grandchildren, Stephanie Calcari, Kimberly Miller, and Corey Sciutto; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Tony Sciutto; one grandson, Michael Sciutto; his brother, Dominick Sciutto; his stepfather, Peter Shianna five stepbrothers Vic, Joe, Peter, Louie, and Sam Shianna and stepsister, Anna Giuintina Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday December 26, 2017 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
