Thomas R. Garman, 79, of Freeport died in his home on Sunday February 12, 2011. He was born on April 20, 1931 in Freeport, the son of Wilbur and Phoebe A. (Horan) Garman. On November 28, 1953 Thomas married JoAnn D. Schmidt in Freeport. JoAnn died December 10, 2000. Thomas owned and operated Garman Construction Company for 30 years. Thomas was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954, serving in Korea with the Seabea'™s. He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ, V.F.W., American Legion, Evergreen Lodge #170 and the Freeport High School Letterman'™s Club. Survivors include; son, Dan (Susan) Garman of Columbia, Tenn., daughter, Paula Garman (Bob Knauff) of Freeport, two daughter in laws; Sylvia Garman of Phoenix and Jayne Garman of Freeport, 8 grandchildren; Brandon Garman of Phoenix, Az., Andrea Garman of Chicago, Annika (Dave) Benedict of Nashville, Ashton Garman of Columbia, TN., David Shores of Chicago, Matthew Shores of Freeport, Rachel Garman of Freeport and Megan Carus of Freeport. Also surviving is one great grandchild Ayden Shores of Freeport. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sons, Greg and Scott. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday February 18, 2011 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home with Rev. Lyle Babcock officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Burke Tubbs. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for All Veterans Memorial Park and Bethany United Church of Christ in his memory. Burial will be in Cedarville Cemetery.
