Thomas R. "Bud" Slater

Thomas R. "Bud" Slater, 85, of German Valley, died Friday June 24, 2022 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL. He began his life's journey on January 29th, 1937, in Irving Illinois. Born to the family of Thomas and Gladys (Scribner-Black) Slater. Tom married the love of his life Sandra Sue Miller on October 19th, 1957. They began their life together in Rockford and as their family grew so did their homes, moving from Rockford to Loves Park, and then to German Valley. He was employed in the non-destructive test lab at the Sundstrand Corporation in Rockford for 31.5 years retiring in 1987. They then operated S&T Cleaning Services for 6 years. He was a member of Baileyville Baptist Church for 20 years and was currently a member of Grace Valley Christian Reformed Church and was faithful in loving God. He felt truly blessed providing and caring for his family as it grew and was considered a Stock Market Nut. They both loved sitting at the kitchen table with family and friends. Tom leaves to mourn his passing, four sons; Thomas Jr. (Sue) John, Lonnie (Becky) Tim (Dana) two daughters; Linda Becker (Don Janssen) Kim Oakes (Jim), grandchildren great and great-great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Sandra Slater; son, Jeffrey Slater; sisters Betty Stech; and Shelby (Jeanie)Tennison. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday July 2, 2022, at Grace Valley Christian Reformed Church (4861 South Holland Church Road, German Valley). Pastor Eric Schlukebir will officiate. Visitation services from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be held at the church. A memorial has been established.
