Theodore “Ted” Wootan

Theodore "Ted" Wootan, 88, of Freeport, IL passed away peacefully at his home in Carrollton, TX on June 1, 2022. He was born December 5, 1933, in Freeport to Paul and Coretta (Bingham) Wootan. Ted and Mary Lou Bear of Cedarville, IL were FHS King and Queen in 1954 and married November 30, 1955. Ted received a full athletic scholarship in Colorado. He was honorably discharged from the US Army and Reserves in 1963. Ted retired from Micro Switch, a division of Honeywell after 30 years. Mary Lou passed away in 1985. He then married Joan McCullom in 1987. Ted loved all sports, coaching and playing football, basketball, and baseball. They loved to travel in his camper with the charitable group Nomads. Ted was an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed playing chess and euchre with his family. They were members of the Freeport ski club and volunteered at Winneshiek Theatre, providing set, light, and sound design. He always had a smile on his face. Surviving are his wife Joan Wootan of Moline, IL and her sons Doug and Laurie McCullom and Dave snd Linda McCullom; his sister Polly Diddens of Centralia, IL; Scott and Karen Wootan of Loves Park, IL; Beth and Leon Wachtel of Prescott AZ; and Jodi and David Paul of Carrollton, TX. Grandchildren include Courtney, Brogan, and Bryton Wachtel; Jenna and Bill Fossen; and great granddaughters Lilyana Lou Lorraine Fossen and Willow Ann Fossen. Preceding him in death is Mary Lou Wootan, his daughter Becky Sue Wootan, and brother Paul Wootan, Jr. Please join us to celebrate his life on Friday, July 15 at the Eagles Club. Visit with the family at 5:00 P.M. buffet supper served at 6:00 P.M. and music fellowship to follow at 7:00. All are welcome. Celebration of Life ceremony to be held 11:00 A.M.at the Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens on Saturday, July 16th, 2022. Lunch to follow at the Wagner House. All are welcome to attend and remember a happy man.
