Sylvia Lee Nelson

Sylvia Lee (Garnhart) Nelson passed away Thursday, July 7th, 2022 at Lena Nursing Center. She was born December 29, 1931 in Freeport, Illinois to Dwight & May (Shilling) Garnhart. She was a graduate of Shimer College with a degree in music. Sylvia married Dale V. Nelson on September 2nd, 1951. She was a former member of Embury United Methodist Church in Freeport, IL. She loved decorating for Christmas, and her home was often referred to as the Christmas House. Sylvia was an accomplished pianist and a teacher of music for over 60 years in the Freeport area, teaching piano, voice and flute. She is survived by her three children: daughters, Terry (Kenneth) Elgin of Orangeville, IL, Larry (David) Ellison of Cave Creek, AZ, and son Dale L. Nelson of Freeport, IL., brother Wendell Garnhart of Shakopee, MN., 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Burke-Tubbs (504 N. Walnut Ave) in Freeport, Illinois on Sunday July 17th from 1:00-2:00 PM, followed immediately after by a memorial service. A memorial has been established in honor of Sylvia.
