Susan Chung, MD, 75, of Freeport, passed away Friday March 2, 2012 at St. Joseph Provena Center in Freeport. Dr. Chung was born in Kyung Nam, South Korea, on December 11, 1936, daughter of Moon Kyung Choi and Lee Kyung Hi. She spent her early childhood in Korea and attended high school in Tokyo, Japan. Arriving as a scholarship student to Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY, in 1956, she went on to receive her MD degree from St. Louis University in 1964. In St. Louis, she also completed her training in anesthesiology. She married on October 26, 1963 to Young C. Chung, MD and they were devoted to each other for the next 48 years. Together, they moved to Freeport in 1970. Here, they raised their family, and Dr. Chung served at the Freeport Memorial Hospital as an attending anesthesiologist between 1970 and her retirement in 1995. She was an active member of the parish of St. Thomas Aquinas. Following retirement Dr. Chung and her husband relocated to Wheeling, IL and Apple Canyon Lake attending Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton. Surviving Mrs. Chung are her husband and 4 children; Christine Chung of Brooklyn, NY, Audrey Marshall of Milton, MA, Lawrence Chung of San Francisco, CA, and Steven Chung of New York, NY. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her 3 grandchildren, Truman, Daisy and Piper Marshall. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday March 6, 2012 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Msgr P. William McDonnell officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at St. Thomas.
