Steven L. Kampmeier

June 22, 1953 — November 13, 2017

Steven L. Kampmeier, 64, of Freeport, died Monday November 13, 2017 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Steven was born June 22, 1953 in Freeport, the son of Eugene and LaVerne (Royster) Kampmeier. He married Shirley K. Johnson October 28, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Steven was a graduate of both Pearl City High School (1971) and Quad City Barber School. He worked at Micro Switch for 42 years. He also owned and operated Steve's Barber Shop for many years. Mr. Kampmeier was a member of First Lutheran Church where he was on the Church Council. He enjoyed horseshoe pitching; he was skilled enough to win five world tournaments. Steven enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting. He was an avid sports fan with the Pittsburgh Steelers being his favorite team. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Kampmeier of Freeport; mother, LaVerne Kampmeier of Lena; sons, Thomas Kampmeier and Karl Kampmeier both of Freeport; stepdaughter, Teresa (Tom) Rillie of Polo; stepsons, Greg (Christine) Gusloff of Pecatonica and Jeff (Christy) Gusloff of Polo; sisters, Connie (Rich) Loberg of Pearl City and Cindy (Gary) Cross of Winslow; also surviving are ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Steven was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Kampmeier. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday November 18, 2017 at First Lutheran Church. Pastor Keith Johnson will officiate.
