Steven L. Greenfield

Steven Lee Greenfield, 73, of Forreston, IL, died suddenly at his home on October, 26, 2023. Steven was born May 27, 1950 in Freeport, IL, to Kenneth O. Greenfield and Wilma J. (Duncan) Greenfield. He graduated from Forreston High School in 1968. After graduation he worked at Harper Elevator, then started his career in farming. He married Pamela Bawinkel on September 15, 1973 at German Valley Methodist Church. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Steve was a lifelong member of Forreston Grove Church where he served as Trustee for many years. He served on the Forrestville Valley School Board for 12 years and was currently serving as the Forreston Township Supervisor and a Polo Co-op board member. Steve loved farming, John Deere tractors, and his cowboy boots. He farmed with his dad and then his son and grandsons. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors and antique tractors, going to farm sales, tractor pulls, and most of all watching his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He didn’t miss many games. He always enjoyed time with his family for a night of pizza and conversation after a day in the field.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela of Forreston; sons, Jeffrey (Erin) Greenfield of German Valley, Daryl (Erika) Greenfield of Forreston; and daughter, Tammy (Matthew) Madura of College Grove, TN. Known as Ba-Bam to his 7 grandchildren, Ethan, Dylan, Owen, Jenna, Darin Greenfield, Mia and Harper Madura. Survived by brothers, Lyle Greenfield, Mike (Jan) Greenfield, and Dennis Greenfield. Also survived by brother-in-law, Gary (Leigh) Bawinkel; brother-in-law, Larry Wert, along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his infant son, Steven; parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell and Norma Bawinkel; sister, Gail Wert; sister-in-law, Jeannie Greenfield; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alan Bawinkel and Bonnie Bawinkel.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday October 31, 2023 at Forreston Grove Church. Rev. Lyle Greenfield will officiate. Visitation is 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday October 30, 2023 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in his name.
