Stella Nelson

Stella I. Nelson, 80, of Freeport, died Friday, February 08, 2013 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born on May 16, 1932 in Pearl City, the daughter of Oscar and Laura (Canfield) Thorn Sr. Stella worked at Burgess Battery for 25 years. She married Fay Kruse on November 6, 1953 and later divorced. She married Lloyd Burton Nelson on May 16, 1979. He died on May 20, 2000. Stella loved music, writing poetry, putting puzzles together, an avid baseball fan and was a family historian. Survivors include one son, Ricky (Deanna) Kruse of Orangeville; two daughters, Mellody Anderson and Tammy Wilson both of Freeport; one brother LeRoy Thorn of Feeport; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, husband, one son, Jeffrey and five sisters and one brother. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Thursday at 11 a.m.. A memorial has been established in her memory.
