Sonja L. Engel

Sonja Lou Engel, 74, of Freeport, died Saturday, October 6, 2012. Sonja was born February 27, 1938, in Monroe, Wisconsin, the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Hanson) Engebretson. On April 5, 1958, Sonja married Billy Engel. She was a homemaker and a housewife. She attended Church of Brethren. Sonja enjoyed baking, Bingo, and spending time with all of her family. Survivors include; husband; Billy Engel, of Freeport, five sons; Craig (Chris) Dale, Curtis (Deb Marcum) Dale, Chris (Jean) Engel, Corey (Jamie) Engel, all of Freeport, and Chad (Teresa) Engel, Oregon, IL., two brothers; Gerald (Shirley) Engebretson, Indiana, and Ronald McGuire, Monroe, WI., four sisters; Janice Nuenschwander, Monroe, WI., Jean (Pete) Petersen, Madison, WI., Sue Ellen (Ron Decker) Jones, Monroe, Cynthia (Brian) Lincoln, Monroe, WI. Also surviving are thirteen grand children, eleven great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and special friend Betty Williams. Sonja was preceded in death by her parents, two twin daughters; Pamula and Tamula, three sisters, one brother, and step father; Don McGuire. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, October 11, at Church of Brethren with Pastor Lisa Fike officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the Church.
