Shirley J. Vrtol

Shirley Vrtol was born in Savanna, IL on June 22, 1931. Shirley lived in Freeport, IL most of her life and died January 15, 2023 at her residence in Liberty Village Manor Court in Freeport. Both of Shirley's parents, Fred and Bertha Shoemaker preceded her in death. Her sister, Fay Werntz also preceded her in death. Survivors include Shirley's other sister Joan Wallace and one brother, James Shoemaker. Shirley was happily married to Steve Vrtol on October 22, 1949, and was married for 46 years before his death on August 26, 1995. Shirley and Steve had 5 children that have all survived them, Stephenie Ball, Debra Vrtol, Stephen Vrtol III (Linda Abronski), David Vrtol (Janet Vrtol) and Mary Reed. Shirley is survived by her six grandchildren: Jennifer Smith Norman, Andrea Flickinger, Kristen Flickinger, David Vrtol Jr.,Emily Vrtol and Anne Vrtol. Eight great grandchildren have also survived Shirley: Colby, Sedona, Chloe, Rylan, Gage, Jaxson, Adrian and Maddox. She worked many years as a volunteer at FHN hospital in Errand Escort. Shirley loved being a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and being around her family. Services will be held at Burke Tubbs Funeral home on January 19, 2023, with visitation from 9-11:00 am, the service will be held at 11:00 am.
