Shirley J. Cassidy

Shirley J. Cassidy, 83, of Freeport, died Tuesday, at F.H. N. Memorial Hospital. She was born January 26, 1930 in Freeport, the daughter of John and Clara (Dilly) Brookman. She married Gerald L. Cassidy on May 12, 1951 in Freeport. He died August 12, 2009. Mrs. Cassidy was a homemaker and a wonderful loving mother to her ten children. She was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are three sons, Dan and Tom Cassidy of Freeport and Mike Cassidy of Dixon, Illinois; seven daughters, Sue (Jeff) Matz, Mary (Steve) Pfeiffer, Patricia Cassidy, Diane (Joel) Kunz, Kathy (Dwayne) Westby and Laurie (Phil) Williams, all of Freeport and Janet (Todd) Ernst of Dixon, Illinois. 18 grandchildren, Jen Cassidy, Josh and Katye Matz of Freeport, Shanna Hughett, Nic, Mike and Manie Homan of Freeport. Micah Cassidy of Waukesha, Wis. Ashley Ernst of DeKalb, Adam Ernst of Freeport, Mickey (Angelica) Ernst of Fond Du Lac, Wis. Derek Kunz of Chicago and Shane Kunz of Naperville, Brittni Westaby of Machesney Park and Blade Westaby of Dubuque, Iowa. Caden, Brycen and Chayton of Freeport. Also 10 great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her infant grandson. The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 28, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name.
