Shayne M. Van Matre

Shayne M. Van Matre, 23, of German Valley, IL passed away Friday August 13, 2021 in his home. He was born August 15, 1997 in Rockford, IL to Shad and Stacy (Degner) Van Matre. Shayne was employed at Mark's Backyard Oasis where he installed pools. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, working on engines, swimming, bicycles, and spending time outdoors, especially hiking. He is survived by his parents Shad and Stacy Van Matre of German Valley, IL; brother Cory Van Matre of German Valley, IL; grandparents Richard and Lorraine Degner of Pecatonica, IL; fianc Skylar Smull of Pecatonica, IL; mother and father-in law Katie and Bill Smull of Pecatonica, IL; and his dog Gixxer. Preceding Shayne in death is his great-grandparents Dawn and Robert Gibler; grandparents Darryl and Deborah Van Matre; and uncle Jamon "Jake" Van Matre. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday August 20, 2021 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. A visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. There also will be a memorial service at 12:00 P.M. Saturday August 21, 2021 at the American Legion in Pecatonica. A memorial has been established in Shayne's memory.
