Sharon Sue Thiel

November 11, 1960 — July 15, 2024

Sharon S Thiel 63 of Freeport went to be with the Lord on July 15, 2024, at UW-Madison surrounded by family and friends. Sherry was born November 11th, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Dr. Richard (Joyce) Hessenius and Eileen Curry Hessenius.


Sherry grew up in Freeport and attended Freeport High School. Sherry worked as a teacher for the Freeport School District for 24 years and the Martin Luther King Center for 30 years. Sherry loved every minute of teaching and that showed when she talked about her students. Sherry loved music and gardening, which you could tell by her flower gardens and the music playing inside of her house. Sherry was a member of Our Fathers House church. Sherry loved her Golden Retriever Suri, who she trained to be a therapy dog. Sherry loved her children and grandchildren so much she never stopped talking about them.


Sherry is survived by her son, Christopher Thiel (Becky), daughter, Jennifer Krakliow (Donald), two step siblings, Jerry Sofran and Deanna Sofran Penick (Dennis), nephews, Joshua Garrett and Ryan ( Ingrid) Garrett. Also surviving are her six grandchildren Isabella, Madalynn, Mackenzie, Emmerson Thiel, Andrew and Ellaina Krakliow. Sherry is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Tammy (David) Jansen and her stepbrother Timothy Sofran.


Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 23, 2024, at The Fathers House Church in Freeport. Pastor Patrick Vandenburgh officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial has been established in Sherry’s memory.
