Sharon Kay (Ackerman) Myers was born in a house in Dubuque Iowa In March of 1944. Her mother was Margaret (Kramer) and Father was Fred Ackerman. She was the third of 8 children born to Margaret, three have preceded her in death, Charly, Bill and Joy. Mary, Pat, John and Bob are still here, as well as her Brother Karl. Growing up she never had a very stable home life and moved about 15 times from Dubuque, to Chicago, to Moline and Davenport, to Chicago and back to Dubuque when she was finally able to live with her father again. She spent most of her first 12 years raising her siblings as her step dad and mother were not the most attentive role models. At 12 she boarded a train in Chicago at Union Station and ended up in East Dubuque, from there she took a cab to her Dad's place. She got about 7 years with him before he died when she was basically on her own again. She met her Husband of 50 years David at a wedding dance on the 14th of February in 1969. Their first date was to see a movie neither knew the plot of, The Graduate, they were both embarrassed. She knew within two weeks that he was the one, although his "normal" family scared her, his Mom Doris accepted her completely, and they were married in June, and their first Son, Dan, was born in December. In 1972, their second child was born, JoAnne Bernadette Myers, She is finally able to hold her little girl, see her little girl, for the first time now. In 1974, their last child, Christopher was born. As the boys grew, Sharon stayed at home with them until they started school In German Valley, where she then got a job at Economy. She worked there while helping Dave work on the house stripping paint off woodwork, and encouraging him to move projects along. She was also well as being a Den leader in the Scouts for her boys. She was in many of the plays that were put on at the School at that time. She quit her job for one closer to home when there was trouble with the sitter, and found work at the school in the cafeteria as well as the Post Office. She planned and organized many trips for the family, almost every year there was a trip to Great America, where they would bring sandwiches and eat out of coolers from the back of the Blazer. She made sure they got to do all those things she was never allowed to do as a child. She made sure they had a great childhood. She also made sure Christmas was always amazing for her boys, utilizing lay-away throughout the year to provide for them, making sure they never had to write the letters to Toys for Tots and the Salvation Army that her mom made her do all those years. For enjoyment she would work on quilts and crochet blankets. In fact she even made clothes for the boys Six-Million Dollar Man Action Figures. In the lean times, she made sure they had clothes, even if she had to make them. She cut corners everywhere she could to make sure they had their needs met. Sharon was always there for everyone, always doing all she could for anyone who asked. Music was incredibly important to her and she passed that along to her boys. She was always a lover of Animals too; she wanted to be a vet. She always made sure she had dogs and cats around her, even though she knew how it ends; she said they offer so much love that it makes it worth it. Sharon also offered so much love that all this made it worth it. Sharon died in her home, surrounded by those who loved her, and is finally able to see and hold her daughter and grandson, and is reunited with her husband of 50 years, as well as all those who were so important to her that she lost, as well as a pack of dogs and a herd of cats. She is survived by her Boys Dan (Sherilyn) and Chris, and her granddaughters Courtney and Kaitlyn. In lieu of flowers or plants, a fund is being set up to be donated for the care of pets for the next hoarding situation where she rescued two dogs.
