Scott A. Stewart

April 9, 1954 — March 9, 2024

Scott (Scotty) A. Stewart, 69, of Freeport, IL passed away Saturday March 9, 2024 at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born April 9, 1954 in Freeport, IL to Alfred and Jackie (MacKenzie) Stewart Jr. Scott was a 1972 graduate of Freeport High School where he met and married Luann Knodle in Freeport, IL on October 12, 1974. He was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 23 for 50 years. He was employed by Mechanical Inc for 37 years and retired in April 2009. Scott truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends who were always welcome in his home. He appreciated spending time at the pool, relaxing in the driveway, reading, and fishing. He found great joy watching his grandchildren grow up and compete in sports, cheering them along every step of the way.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Scott knew he was a man of few words and most of those words will never be forgotten. Even though his presence was quiet, inside was a caring man with a big heart who loved his family and friends dearly. Scott’s medical journey hasn’t always been easy, starting back in 1996 up until the days he took his last breath. He faced more than most can imagine, yet his determination to never give up pushed him to overcome all he faced through the years. Scott will always be known as a “fighter” who held his family near to his heart.

He is survived by his wife Luann of Freeport, IL; two children Troy (Rachel) Stewart of Freeport, IL and Kristi (Kevin) Walz of Yulee, FL; four grandchildren Rylie Stewart, Austin Walz, Landon Stewart, and Bryson Walz; sister Lani (Chuck) Shaw; father and mother-in-law Orville “Skeeter” and Joanne Knodle; brother-in-law Gregg (Kathy) Knodle; and four nieces Stacy, Laura, Amy, and Lindsay.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents.
