Sandra Helen Rapp

Sandra Helen Rapp, 77, passed away peacefully on March 21 at home. Sandy was born on August 11, 1943 in Highland Park, IL to Gordon and Helen (Amundson) Vines. On September 14, 1963, she married Mark Rapp in Deerfield, IL. Together they had 4 children. In 1972, they moved to Freeport where she was a homemaker until all the children were in middle school and high school. She then worked for 1st National Bank, Aquin High School, Ultrasonic Power Co and Highland College. Sandy retired early when her daughter was diagnosed with cancer. Sandy played the violin in grade school and high school. Many years later, she played in the Rock Valley College Symphony Orchestra and at church She loved to cook and sew and she excelled in both. She made tee-shirt quilts as graduation gifts for each of her grandchildren. Sandy was discouraged from going to college after high school so she attended secretarial school in Chicago, after which she worked for a law firm and International Harvestor. She met Mark on the commuter train. In 1990, while working full time, she graduated from Clarke University with a degree in Business Management. Sandy was proud to fulfill her dream after 30 years. Sandy is survived by her husband, Mark and 3 children; James (Colleen) of Iowa City, IA, Joseph (Melanie), Richmond, VA, and Jeffrey (Stacie) of South Beloit, IL; 10 grandchildren, Katherine, Jacqueline and Tommy Rapp; Elizabeth and Mark Rapp; Amanda and Jesse Rapp; Sydney, Easton and Sawyer Dobson. Sister, Julie (David) Patterson, sister-in-law Marianne Vines, Connie Rapp Zukowski and Rita Rapp, dear friend Kathy Berberet who blessed Sandy with a kidney on July 2, 2015, and many nieces and nephews. Sandy was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Helen Dobson, sister Lois Byford and brother Gordon Vines. A special thank you to her sister, Julie and to FHN Hospice who made it possible for Sandy to spend her last 3 weeks at home. Visitation will be Friday March 26, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with a scripture service at 3:30. The funeral will be on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Social distancing and face masks will be required at the visitation and funeral mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Aquin Catholic Schools. Please sign her guestbook and share a remembrance at www.burketubbs.com.
