Sally Anne Sharelis, age 81, passed away peacefully Thursday November 24, 2022 while celebrating her favorite holiday surrounded by her family. She was born in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Vincent and Sally Scavo. She was raised in the heart of the city on Taylor and Western Ave. Sally received her RN degree from St. Anne's School of Nursing and worked as an RN at both St. Anne's Hospital and Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Sally had a gift when it came to helping those in need and nursing was the perfect job for her. While living in Freeport, she worked as the Executive Director for Sojourn House, was a Trustee on the Highland Community College Board for 18 years, and was actively involved in the League for Women Voters for many years. Sally and Bill Sharelis met while in college and were married in 1964 and together they shared more than 58 years of marriage. Their first child, Christopher was born while they were living in New London, Connecticut while Bill was serving in the Navy. Their family grew while they were living in Rochester, MN with the arrival of David and Elizabeth. Eventually, Bill and Sally settled in Freeport, IL and then moved to their "Farm" in Scales Mound, IL once the children were grown. While living in Scales Mound, Sally helped Bill in the selling house at Bill's Tree Farm every winter. Sally had an amazing ability to cook wonderful meals. She especially loved preparing meals for many family parties over the years. Sally also loved to travel. She took many trips with family and friends over the years including trips to China, Italy and many, many places within the United States. Sally is survived by her husband Bill, her children Christopher (Anne) Sharelis, David Sharelis and Elizabeth (Eric) Eiss. She is further survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild Michael (Megan) Sharelis, Ashley and Chloe Sharelis, Sabrina and April Sharelis and Will and Eva Eiss. She is also survived by her brother, Vincent Scavo (Sharon) and many nieces and nephews. Sally was preceded in death by both of her parents and her brother, Anthony. Visitation will be held at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Freeport with visitation being held one hour prior to the Mass at the Church.
