Rutha Mae Lacy

March 15, 1932 — June 16, 2022

Rutha Mae Bankston Lacy went home to glory Thursday June 16, 2022. Born in Tippo Mississippi March 15, 1932, to Sam and Tonie Bankston, she was the eldest of 10 children. Rutha confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and attended Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston Mississippi. She married Ernest Lacy January 19, 1954, and to this union four children were born. She moved with her family to Freeport, Illinois December 1963 and worked for Micro Switch for 30 years until she retired. Rutha worshipped at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of The Reverend Robert L. Huff until his death. Her love for the Lord could be heard in her singing, and not many Sundays passed where you didn't hear a "Yes Lord" from Sister Lacy. She continued her service at Abundant Life Christian Deliverance Center under Pastor Kelvin McGee. Her childhood home of Charleston Mississippi was dear to her heart, and it was the rare occasion that she didn't attend the annual town reunion. In 2008 she was recognized for 30 years of faithful participation. She leaves many precious memories to be cherished by her four children; Larry (Gwendolyn) Lacy, Linda (Jimmy) Simmons, Christie (Cecil) Taylor, all of Freeport, and Doris (Michael) Vogt of Saint Paul, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. 5 sisters, Pearlie Kirk, Ethel Johnson, Dorothy Pincham all from Freeport, Juanita Brown (Ohio), Shirley Herron (Georgia); lots of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
