Ruth Irene Schwartz, 88, of Rockton IL, formerly of Cedarville, IL, died Tuesday March 17, 2015 at Highview in the Woodlands in Rockton, IL. She was born August 20, 1926 in New Holland, IL, the daughter of Julius and Louise (Habeck) Gehrke. She married Paul Schwartz November 28, 1947; he died February 8, 2007. Ruth retired as Postmaster from Cedarville, IL. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Cedarville Lions Club, Cedarville Historic Society, and American Legion Auxiliary, and Federal Postmasters Association. She enjoyed crocheting and playing piano. Ruth is survived by her six sons, Thomas (Mary) Schwartz of Dubuque, IA, Steven (Pam) Schwartz Morton, IL, Mark (Yvonne) Schwartz of Morton, IL, James (Paula) Schwartz of Freeport, IL, Daniel (Joy) Schwartz of Oregon, IL, and Francis (Amanda) Schwartz of Sarasota, FL; Three daughters Fawn (David) Nolan of Lena, IL, Paula (Guy) Carynski of Caledonia, IL, and Ruth (Scott) Confer of Winslow, IL; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and her special friend John Bond. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her sister Evelyn Parkinson; her brother Lester Gehrke; her grandson Nathan Schwartz; and her great-granddaughter Harper Folgate. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 A.M Monday March 23, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Rev. David Beauvais officiating. Visitation will be Sunday March 22, 2015 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, from 1:00-4:00 P.M., with a Rosary service at 4:00 P.M. and from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established for OSF Hospice and Highview in the Woodlands.
