Ruth Adlin Lanning

Ruth Adlin Lanning, 86, of Freeport, died Tuesday August 6, 2013, at Provena St. Joseph Home. Ruth was born October 22, 1926, in Enid, OK, the daughter of John and Mida (Crouch) Heady. On April 14, 1945, Ruth married Henry B. Lanning in Enid, OK. She met Henry 'Hank' when he was training at Vance Air Force Base in Enid. She worked as a welder on the planes during the war effort. Ruth and Hank were married for 41 years and loved traveling together. Mr. Lanning died on August 12, 1986. Ruth enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are daughter, Mida (Timothy) Smith of Freeport,IL.; eight grandchildren, Debbie (Mike) House of Harbor Beach, MI., Christy (Terral) Tatum of Grandfield, OK., Kyle (Mary) Merhoff of Greensburg, KS., Anne Smith-Rainey of Oakland, CA., Sarah (Larry) Fey of Rockford, IL., Amanda (Tim) Kleese of Washington, IA., Enid (Andrew) Smith of Wilmette, IL., and Shannon (Nathan) Morgans of Tulsa, OK; 26 great-grandchildren; Colby, Sedona, and Chloe Smith, Henry and Ingrid Rainey, Ellen, Timothy, George and Lucille Fey, Noah, Jack, and Isaac Kleese, Beatrice Smith, Louisa Rauhauser, Emma, Benjamin and Adalin Morgans, Ashlind, Wyatt, and Dylani House, Kylynn and Kelton Tatum and Braiden, Makenna, Jace, and Dalyn Merhoff. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Sharren Thach; and grandson Colby Smith. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services or visitation.
