Russell H. Ditsworth, 93, of Freeport, died Saturday October 1, 2016 at Manor Court of Freeport. Russell was born on February 4, 1923 in Stockton, Illinois, the son of Howard and Alice (Blair) Ditsworth. He served in the European, African and Middle East Theatres during World War II for the United States Army earning the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Warren American Legion. Russell worked for the Stephenson County Highway Department for over 30 years. Surviving are his sons, Dennis (Teresa) Ditsworth of Dakota and Russell D. Ditsworth Jr. of Freeport; daughter, Dawn A. Ditsworth of Bradenton, Florida; brother, Glen (Ruth) Ditsworth of Freeport; two sisters, Doris Schwartz of Freeport and Lois (Alvin) Niesman of Lena; three grandchildren, Stephanie Carmichael, Octavia O'Neill and Bearry White; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew O'Neill, Katie O'Neill, Nathan Carmichael, and Chloe Carmichael. Russell was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Colnel and Gailand Ditsworth. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 6, 2016 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. Don Jamerson will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established Russell's memory.
