Russell E. Duitsman, 76, of Forreston, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at his home. Russell was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Ogle County, the son of Willie and Frances (Swalve) Duitsman. On Nov. 9, 1957, Russell and Geneva Thompson were married at Forreston Grove Presbyterian Church. Russell worked his entire life on his family farm in Ogle County. He was a life-long member of Forreston Grove Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed watching sporting events, especially watching his grandchildren. He was known for his good sense of humor and quick wit. He loved animals, and they loved him. He was known as a 'cow whisperer.' Survivors include his wife, Geneva Duitsman of Forreston; one son, Steve Duitsman of Hoffman Estates; two daughters, Cindi (Bob) Borczak of Elgin, and Lisa (Todd) Barkalow of Forreston; and one sister-in-law, Erma Duitsman of Forreston; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his five grandchildren, Meghan Borczak, Drew Borczak, Austin Duitsman, Max Barkalow and Sam Barkalow. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at Forreston Grove Church with the Rev. Jeremy Cheezum officiating. Burial will be at Forreston Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening, Dec. 9, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Forreston. There also will be visitation from 9:30 a.m. Friday morning until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory.
