Ruby E. Obenchain

Ruby E. Obenchain, 99, of Freeport, died Monday December 24, 2012 at FHN Memorial Hospital. She was born on December 2, 1913 in Stephenson County, IL, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Ackerman) Fairbairn. Ruby married David W. Obenchain in 1934; he died in 1975. She was a homemaker and a housewife; and also volunteered at Freeport Memorial Hospital and The Senior Resource Center where she worked on The Rolling Stone Newspaper. Ruby enjoyed playing cards. Ruby is survived by her son, Leon (Garnet)Obenchain of Freeport, Il; two daughters, Marilyn DeVries and Carol Peck both of Freeport, IL; her sister Marjorie Wilhelms of Freeport, IL; ten grandchildren: Laura, Lonna, Lamont, Wendell, Delbert, Sheldon, Eric, Silver, Lamay, and James; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday December 29, 2012 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her memory.
