Roy Van Raden

Roy Van Raden, 96, of Forreston, died Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Presence St. Joseph Center in Freeport. Roy was born January 23, 1918, in Forreston, the son of Henry and Louise Van Raden. Roy married Minnie Dikkers on June 21, 1946, in Forreston. Mrs. Van Raden passed away November 2, 2010. Roy was a Forreston area farmer. He also owned and operated his own excavating business. Roy was a lifelong member of Forreston Grove Church. He was also a member of the Home Town Five, Valley Strings, and Harmony Strings Musical Groups. Surviving are many nieces and nephews including, Linda Ruby of Tennessee and Carol (Larry) Coy of Forreston; special friend, Mark (Jennifer) Gassman of Pearl City; and sisters-in-law, Wanda and Ruth Dikkers. Roy was preceded in death by his wife; one sister, Esther Heeren; and nephew, Wayne Heeren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Forreston Grove Church. Rev. Jeremy Cheezum will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at Forreston Grove Church. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Roy's memory.
