Ronald P. Sluiter

Ronald P. Sluiter, 93, of Freeport, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Ronald was born September 20, 1923 in German Valley, the son of Reint and Hattie (Uden) Sluiter. He married Roberta M. Schrader on December 25, 1957 in Lena. Ronald was a lifelong farmer in the Freeport area. He was a member of Silver Creek Reformed Church where he was active as a Deacon and Elder. Ronald was a Past President of the Stephenson County Farm Bureau; he served several years on the State Farm Bureau Board, and was a member of the Silver Creek Township Board. He enjoyed square dancing but most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Roberta Sluiter of German Valley; three sons, Larry (Carolyn) Sluiter of Freeport, Tom (Jan Kloester) Sluiter of German Valley, and Jeffrey (LeeAnn) Sluiter of Rockford; daughter, Kim (Bradley) DeWall of LeClaire, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Katherine DeWall, Kristina (Jeffrey) Romans, Anna DeWall, Zachary (Jennifer) DeWall, Benjamin (Linda) Sluiter, Elizabeth Sluiter, Jennifer (Anthony) Alexander, Max Sluiter, and Samuel Sluiter; also surviving are seven great-grandchildren. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday May 8, 2017 at Silver Creek Reformed Church, Rev. Grant Mulder will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at Silver Creek. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Ronald's memory.
