Roland R. Munda, 87, of Freeport, passed away on August 19, 2023 in his home. He was born February 2, 1936, in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Frank and Nina (Harvey) Munda. He graduated from Aquin High School in 1954 and married Shirlee Ransom in Freeport on June 18, 1955.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, Greg (Julie) Munda and Doug (Kelley) Munda, and three Granddaughters, Amy (Jeremy) Voegeli, Melissa (Darrin) Voegeli, and Delaney Munda. Also surviving are seven Great Grandchildren, Landyn, Kailyn, Brody, Brycen, Brynlee, Brooklyn and Briella Voegeli, and two brothers, Tim and Dan. One brother (Frank) preceded him in death.
He was a brick mason before joining the Freeport Fire Department in 1966. He served as Fire Fighter, Lieutenant, Captain, and Fire Inspector. He retired from the Fire Department in 1987. He also served on the Freeport Fire and Police Commission. He founded Munda and Associates Auctioneers and Appraisers.
Family services will be Tuesday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum. A memorial has been established in Roland’s memory.
