Roger Ray Runkle, 78, of German Valley, IL passed away Saturday February 8, 2025 at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born November 17, 1946 in Freeport, IL to Raymond and Roselyn (Degner) Runkle. Roger married Linda McDowell on August 2, 1975 in Warren, IL. He served in the United States Army, serving two tours during the Vietnam War.
His hobbies included R.C. cars, dirt track racing, especially attending the Freeport Raceway, and old and classic cars, which he had a Buick Regal of his own that he took great pride in. Roger was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Boston Celtics, New York Yankees, and Rusty Wallace.
He is survived by his wife Linda of German Valley, IL; children Randy Allen of FL, Cathy of Tennesse, Tommy Runkle of Metropolis, IL, Jolene Runkle of Freeport, IL, and Travis (Kimberly) Runkle of German Valley, IL; sister Rhonda Riem of Freeport, IL; 12 grandchildren Dante, Dashaela, Sydney, Tymon, Phillip, Danny, Cameron, Tyler, Marissa, Jessica, T.J. and Savannah; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents, sister Rita Raisbeck, and son Judson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday February 14, 2025 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday February 13, 2025 also at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum in Freeport. A memorial has been established in Roger’s memory.
